Job Summary The Recreation Program Assistant assists in the coordination and facilitation of recreation programs and community events, provides exceptional customer service, supports staff and volunteers, and helps ensure programs are delivered safely and efficiently. Location: Aaniin Community Centre Hours: Weekday Evenings and Weekends Key Duties and Responsibilities * Provides leadership, direction, and customer service to program instructors, assistants and volunteers; * Facilitates and oversees current programs, leagues and special events * Liaise with community partners, facility staff, instructors, conveners and Information Service Representatives; * Ensures supplies and equipment are ready for all programs; * Visits and provides support for pre-school, children, teen and adult programs; * Assists with the preparation of each new programming season; * Assists with leading P.L.A.Y. training for various elementary schools in the community * Visits and assists in afterschool Programs in various elementary schools * Participates in the recruitment of volunteers including orientation, interviews and qualifications screening * Updates bulletin boards and other community advertisements * Organizes participant program evaluation packages and distribute them to participants * Completes assessments using the High Five Quest 2 Tool Qualifications * Post-secondary education in Recreation or related field is an asset * Minimum age of 16 years of age at the start of employment * Experience working with children and youth. * Experience assisting with overseeing and facilitating programs. * Some previous administrative experience performing routine transactions and administrative tasks where attention to detail is required * Demonstrated leadership skills and interpersonal skills * Excellent time management and organizational skills * Superior customer service and communication skills and sensitivity to interact with a diversity of patrons, and staff in a courteous and efficient manner. * High Five certification * Current certifications in Standard First Aid OR Intermediate First Aid with CPR ‘C’ and AED * High Five Quest 2 is an asset Core Behaviours * Service Excellence: Meets or exceeds service standards when interacting with customers in the community and in the organization. * Change & Innovation: Responds positively and professionally to change and helps others through change. * Teamwork & Relationship Building: Interacts with others in an inclusive, collaborative and respectful way that creates effective working relationships. * Communication: Communicates in a clear, professional and respectful way; demonstrates active listening. * Accountable & Results Oriented: Demonstrates ethical behaviour and accountability, aligns with City values, and abides by relevant policies and legislation. * Management & Leadership: Demonstrates self-management, professionalism and engagement; leads by example.
