Under the general direction of the Manager of Engineering, this position is primarily responsible for assisting in the administration of the Town's projects. The Engineering Technician will be responsible for the inspection of Town infrastructure, assets, and Town operated facilities throughout the Town of Paradise to ensure adherence to all applicable codes and standards, including but not limited to the Town's specifications and the Municipal Water, Sewer and Roads Specifications. QualificationsSuccessful completion of a high school diploma, supplemented by the completion of a post-secondary diploma program in Civil Engineering Technology and five (5) years of related experience.Must be or eligible to be a member of the Association of Engineering Technicians/Technologist of Newfoundland.Knowledge of the Municipal Water, Sewer, and Roads Specifications and the National Building Code of Canada is required. Knowledge of the Public Procurement Act and Regulations, the Towns and Local Service Districts Act, the Town's Engineering Guidelines and Development Regulations and Guidelines for the Design, Construction and Operation of Water and Sewerage Systems is an asset.Demonstrated ability to deal with the public with tact and diplomacy.Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.Previous project management and/or construction experience is an asset.High level of organizational and problem-solving skills is required.A good working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office is required.Experience using Infowater Pro is an asset.Experience with surveying and asset management is an asset.Experience in the design, construction and maintenance of municipal infrastructure such as roads, water and sanitary sewer systems, stormwater management, including grading plans is an asset.Previous experience in the design, rehabilitation and operation of facilities, including but not limited to buildings, pumping stations, treatment plants, and arenas would be considered an asset.This is a unionized position.
