Water/Wastewater Operator II Job ID: PW-15-2026 Position Overview: Reporting to the Water/Wastewater Supervisor, the Water/Wastewater Operator II is responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the Water Distribution & Supply, Water Treatment, Wastewater Collection and Wastewater Treatment subsystems that the Township of Perth East operates. The Operator ensures the continuous delivery of safe drinking water and the collection, treatment and environmentally responsible discharge of wastewater while complying with all applicable legislation, regulations, permits and standard operating procedures. The Water/Wastewater Operator II may be called upon to act as the Overall Responsible Operator (ORO) of the Water and Wastewater Systems. Core Responsibilities: Perform monitoring, operation and maintenance on all aspects of the systems including but not limited to water distribution systems, water supply and treatment plants, reservoirs, wastewater collection systems including pumping stations, wastewater treatment plants and the landfill leachate collection system; Act as the Overall Responsible Operator (ORO) and/or the “Operator in Charge” (OIC) on all subsystems as scheduled or required; Provides oversight and guidance to the Water/Wastewater Operator I; Carry out microbiological and chemical sampling in addition to performing in-house analysis to make process control changes on all subsystems as required in accordance with legislative requirements; Participate in emergency repairs to any parts of the systems; Perform water meter reads as required; Assists with investigating general public complaints with respect to water and wastewater; Provide timely and accurate underground locates to the public in regards to water and sewer including responding to emergency locate requests; Maintain utility maps in a clear and concise manner; Responsible for the safe and effective use of equipment; Participate in the ongoing development and improvement of the Township’s Quality Management System (QMS) including recommending changes and attending QMS mandated meetings including internal audits; Carry out work assignments using a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment, including hand and power tools; Obtain training as required by to maintain certification and licensure in accordance with legislative requirements; Maintain as required, daily, monthly and annual records in a neat and legible manner; Provides on-call duties as part of a rotation, including evenings and weekends, as scheduled. Qualifications: Secondary School Diploma or equivalent required; Must possess the following certifications in compliance with Ontario Regulation 128/04: Class II Water Distribution and Supply; Class II Water Treatment; Must possess the following licenses in compliance with Ontario Regulation 129/04: Class II Wastewater Treatment; Class II Wastewater Collection; Five (5) years of experience in a related field; Confined Space Entry and Rescue Certificate preferred; Valid Ontario Class G driver's license in good standing with preference given to candidates with a Class DZ license. Skills and Knowledge: Ability to work independently and cooperatively within a team environment; Ability to interpret operating manuals and engineering drawings relevant to the design and construction of facilities and the operation of equipment; Ability to perform accurate basic mathematical calculations to determine chemical dosages and flow rates, and ability to apply laboratory procedures and sampling techniques; Knowledge of current MECP water/ wastewater regulations and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA); Strong ability to problem solve; Demonstrated knowledge of hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems; Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; Manual motor skills to perform repairs and maintenance; Knowledge of Geographic Information System (“GIS”) software; Familiarity with “Ontario One Call” requirements; Working Conditions: Required to climb stairs and ladders, kneel, bend, walk, lift, and carry objects of varying weights; Required to work in confined spaces including chambers, maintenance holes, sewers, wet wells and work with hazardous chemicals; Required to make site visits to water and wastewater treatment facilities. Hours of work can vary considerably with overtime required as needed. Position Details: This is a position is full time, 40 hours per week. On call rotation schedule. 2026 Hourly Pay Range - Grade 10: $33.53 - $41.91 per hour. Enrollment into the OMERS Pension Plan. Employee Assistance Benefits. Candidates must hold a Secondary School Diploma and possess Class II certifications for water distribution, water treatment, wastewater treatment, and wastewater collection. A minimum of five years of related experience and a valid Class G driver's license are required.
