The Opportunity True Mechanical is looking to hire a Construction Designer to join our Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) team. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically minded, and a strong problem solver with an understanding of mechanical construction. This role is focused on 2D mechanical and plumbing design and layout, using AutoCAD to develop accurate, coordinated, and constructible drawings that support efficient field installation. The successful candidate will work closely with our Field, Project Management, and VDC teams. Responsibilities Develop accurate 2D mechanical and plumbing design and layout drawings using AutoCAD. Read and interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical construction drawings, shop drawings, and project specifications. Review designs for constructability and coordinate mechanical layouts with other building disciplines. Apply the BC Plumbing Code, BC Building Code, and applicable industry standards to design and layout work. Develop and modify basic routing for drainage, domestic water, gas, and hydronic piping systems. Prepare and manage RFIs and incorporate responses and design changes into construction drawings. Develop sleeve, canning, pre-insert, and piping layouts to support efficient field installation. Work closely with Foremen, Supervisors, and the Prefabrication team to produce practical, field-ready drawings. Communicate and coordinate with Engineers, Architects, General Contractors, Project Managers, and other project stakeholders. Manage multiple projects and deadlines while identifying and resolving design, coordination, and installation issues. Required Work Experience At least 2 years of recent experience in mechanical construction design, drafting, layout, plumbing/HVAC systems, or a related role. Experience working with a mechanical contractor or within the mechanical construction industry is preferred. Experience coordinating mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical, and other building disciplines is an asset. Required Skills Proficient in AutoCAD. Experience with Bluebeam Revu. Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, shop drawings, and specifications. Knowledge of plumbing and mechanical building systems. Working knowledge of the BC Plumbing Code and BC Building Code. Ability to understand and modify basic drainage, domestic water, gas, and hydronic piping layouts. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Strong attention to detail and drawing accuracy. Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Comfortable working directly with field personnel, consultants, and other construction professionals.
