The firm is committed to helping legal practices operate efficiently and confidently with their financial records. Role Description The Legal Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records for law firm clients, including trust and general ledgers, in a full-time, on-site role based in Alberta. Day-to-day tasks include recording and reconciling transactions, preparing journal entries, managing accounts payable and receivable, and assisting with the preparation of financial statements and reports. The role involves using accounting software to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including trust accounting rules and firm-specific policies. The Legal Bookkeeper will interact regularly with clients and internal team members to resolve discrepancies, provide financial information, and support month-end and year-end closing activities. This position requires a strong focus on accuracy, confidentiality, and adherence to legal accounting standards. Qualifications Strong bookkeeping skills with experience in journal entries and maintaining accurate ledgers. Ability to prepare and support financial statements and related reporting. Proficiency with accounting software and comfort working with finance and accounting systems. Understanding of legal and trust accounting practices (experience with law firms or professional services is an asset). Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple client files. Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify and resolve discrepancies. Effective written and verbal communication skills and a professional client-service mindset. Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, or a related field; relevant bookkeeping or accounting certifications are an asset.
