About the role: As Senior Lawyer, you will provide high-level legal advice across a broad range of matters, with a particular focus on construction law. Reporting to the General Counsel & Company Secretary, you will advise the Board, committees, leaders and employees on complex legal issues, draft and negotiate contracts and statutory documentation, and manage court proceedings. Whilst the ability to assist with overflow work in areas such as planning, commercial and procurement would be beneficial, this role is primarily requiring construction law expertise. You will play an important role in supporting informed decision-making across Unitywater, identifying legal and governance risks and delivering practical solutions that enable the organisation to achieve its strategic objectives. You will also contribute to the development of the Legal and Governance Branch through mentoring, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement. About The Team The Legal and Governance Branch provides trusted, high-quality legal and governance advice that supports Unitywater’s people, operations and strategic objectives. Working closely with the General Counsel & Company Secretary and leaders across the organisation, the team partners with the business to navigate complex legal, commercial, planning and governance matters. The team values collaboration, integrity, innovation and continuous learning, with a strong focus on providing practical, customer-focused legal solutions. As Senior Lawyer, you will be part of a supportive team environment where your expertise will contribute to best practice, while also providing opportunities to guide and mentor colleagues across the Legal Branch. To contribute to this, you will demonstrate the following skills and qualities for the role: Qualified legal professional with a Bachelor of Laws and current Queensland Legal Practising Certificate, admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland. Experienced senior lawyer with significant post-admission experience and a strong track record providing high-quality legal advice on complex and sensitive matters. Planning and development expertise, with experience across planning and environment, land, property, construction, public law or related areas. Strong litigation capability, including experience managing court and common law proceedings, particularly in land, planning and development matters. Commercially minded and solutions focused, with the ability to provide practical, strategic advice that supports sound organisational decision-making. Highly skilled communicator and negotiator, able to build trusted relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels, including senior leaders and government authorities. Values-led team contributor who demonstrates integrity, discretion and accountability and actively supports collaboration, learning and continuous improvement.
