To oversee and enhance West Edmonton Mall Property Inc.’s pest management programs, ensuring the safety, cleanliness, and comfort of guests, tenants, and staff. This role supports the unique needs of a large, high traffic retail and entertainment property by implementing proactive pest control strategies, maintaining regulatory compliance, and safeguarding the reputation and operational excellence of West Edmonton Mall. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead and manage all pest control operations across West Edmonton Mall’s diverse spaces, including retail areas, entertainment attractions, food courts, back-of-house areas, service corridors, rooftops, and other areas as needed. Conduct regular inspections to identify pest activity, sanitation risks, and structural vulnerabilities. Provide daily hands-on pest removal activities, clean-up, and sanitation practices at or above industry standards. Develop and implement treatment plans and preventive strategies compliant with municipal, provincial, and federal regulations. Coordinate and oversee external pest control vendors to ensure high-quality service and adherence to contractual expectations. Provide strategies and work on on-going removal and preventative programs both internally to the facility and externally including a rooftop bird prevention program. Maintain accurate and compliant records of inspections, treatments, chemical usage, and incident responses. Train mall staff and tenant partners on sanitation standards, reporting procedures, and best practices for pest prevention. Oversee mall tenant pest control programs, ensuring prevention, proper documentation, and compliance with pest control policies. Lead structural and sanitation inspection programs for food service tenants to improve health, safety, and regulatory compliance at WEM. Monitor trends in pest activity across the mall and adjust protocols as needed for optimal effectiveness. Respond rapidly to pest-related incidents to ensure minimal disruption to guests and tenants. Work with company owned hotel properties and related management to provide pest control services and/or act as a company representative to when requested towards the common goals of the environmental services department for the organization. Collaborate with internal departments including Maintenance, Housekeeping, Attractions, and Food & Beverage, and the Mall Tenants. Ensure all pest control materials, equipment, and chemicals are ordered, stored, used, and disposed of safely according to the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act. Oversee the departmental budget while driving strategic growth initiatives to expand services, improve efficiency, and meet organizational goals. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a valid structural (Category 7) Pest Control certification (indoor/building pest control for insects, rodents, and structural pests), or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe. A valid and current Pesticide Applicator Certification is required for this position. Previous experience in pest control, environmental services, or facility sanitation management. Strong understanding of integrated pest management principles and environmental safety standards and the ability to wear required PPE for chemical and hazardous work. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills. Ability to lead training sessions and coordinate with multiple departments. Strong attention to detail with the ability to assess risks and implement solutions quickly. Ability to walk for extended periods of the day, lift, move, bend, crouch, climb stairs and ladders, and handle equipment as required for inspections and treatments. Proficiency with reporting tools, inspection software, or facility management systems is an asset. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a salaried position that will depend on experience and qualifications. May require early mornings, evenings, weekends, or on-call availability depending on operational needs. Must be able to pass a basic security clearance.
