About The Role Capital One Canada is seeking a highly skilled Staff Android Engineer to join its dynamic mobile development team. This role offers the opportunity to lead the technical design, architecture, and development of innovative cross-platform applications that enhance the company's digital banking services. The ideal candidate will possess extensive hands-on experience in native Android application development using Java and Kotlin, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality software solutions throughout the entire software development lifecycle. As a key contributor, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to design scalable, maintainable, and efficient mobile applications that align with the company's strategic goals. This position does not involve direct reports but requires a strong technical leadership presence, mentorship capabilities, and the ability to influence technical decisions across teams. Qualifications The successful candidate will possess a minimum of six years of experience developing native Android applications using Java and Kotlin, with a solid understanding of application and data design, architecture, and development. Expertise in modern Android development tools and frameworks such as RxJava, Coroutines, Dagger, Espresso, Junit, and Jetpack Compose is essential. A background in providing mentorship to junior and intermediate developers, along with experience guiding technical and business stakeholders, is highly valued. A bachelor's, master's, or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field is required. Additional qualifications include exposure to cloud platforms like AWS and familiarity with agile development methodologies. Candidates with over eight years of full software development lifecycle experience and a proven ability to lead projects from inception to deployment will be preferred. Responsibilities The core responsibilities of this role include owning the technical design, architecture, and development of multi-platform application systems that serve diverse customer needs. You will collaborate within a dynamic mobile development team, contributing throughout the software development lifecycle—from planning and design to testing, deployment, and support. Improving software engineering practices by working within agile teams to develop innovative solutions using a full stack of tools and technologies is a key aspect of the role. You will also provide mentorship to junior, intermediate, and senior mobile developers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence. Additionally, you will stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, advising on how these can be integrated to enhance product performance and customer experience.
