Job Title: Cyber Security EngineerJob Description This Cyber Security Engineer role focuses on safeguarding advanced Air and Naval sonar/acoustics systems by designing, implementing, and validating robust cybersecurity solutions. You will shape security architectures, lead technical assessments, and ensure compliance with recognized military and industry cybersecurity frameworks, contributing directly to next-generation defense technologies. Responsibilities Develop comprehensive security strategies, design secure systems, and implement cybersecurity solutions to ensure that systems and products are designed and developed based on strong security principles. Support stakeholder engagement by identifying applicable regulatory requirements and defining the Security Assessment and Accreditation (SA&A) process, securing agreement from SA&A authorities on information protection needs. Evaluate, select, and establish system security architectures, and design and implement cybersecurity controls that align with project and regulatory requirements. Conduct threat modeling and vulnerability assessments to refine system defenses, improve risk posture, and enhance overall system resilience. Perform technical security assessments of operating systems, containerized environments (including Docker and Podman), and applications to evaluate real-world exploitability and identify remediation actions. Ensure cybersecurity frameworks and controls adhere to relevant military and industry standards such as NIST Risk Management Framework (NIST RMF), ITSG-33, and applicable FIPS guidelines. Conduct Threat Risk Analysis, impact analysis, and vulnerability testing, including proof-of-concept validation where appropriate to demonstrate exploitability and effectiveness of mitigations. Develop, author, and execute Security Test Procedures that verify and validate System Security Requirements and demonstrate assurance through evidence-based testing. Support internal and external audits by authoring and maintaining reproducible security artifacts and SA&A documentation, including System Security Plans, Risk Assessments, security content in System Design Documents, and Security Test Reports. Collaborate with systems engineering and other technical teams to integrate security requirements into system designs and development lifecycles. Contribute to continuous improvement of cybersecurity practices, tools, and methodologies across the program. Essential Skills Minimum of 4 years of experience in cybersecurity engineering, security architecture, or a closely related discipline. Strong understanding of Linux security, including hardening practices, access control, and secure configuration management. Expertise in container security for environments such as Docker and Podman, including image scanning, runtime protection, and secure deployment practices. Hands-on experience with vulnerability scanning and vulnerability assessment tools, and the ability to interpret results and drive remediation. Experience conducting technical security testing for systems, networks, or applications, including penetration-style assessments and configuration reviews. Experience supporting vulnerability management workflows, including CVE and CWE tracking, prioritization, and remediation coordination. Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks such as ITSG‑33, NIST 800‑171/172, and NIST RMF, and the ability to apply them to real-world systems. Experience with Security Assessment and Accreditation (SA&A) processes, including planning, documentation, and stakeholder engagement. Strong skills in requirements analysis, particularly for security and information protection requirements within complex systems. Ability to develop and maintain security documentation, including System Security Plans, Risk Assessments, Security Test Procedures, and Security Test Reports. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working within or alongside systems engineering teams to align cybersecurity controls with system architecture and design. Familiarity with generating and maintaining software bills of materials (SBOMs) in SPDX or CycloneDX formats, including mapping vulnerabilities using CVEs. Knowledge of industry standards and best practices for secure software and system development in defense or similarly regulated environments. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex technical findings into clear, actionable recommendations. Effective communication skills for collaborating with technical stakeholders, auditors, and accreditation authorities.
