The Intermediate Hydrogeologist supports the delivery of hydrogeological, groundwater supply, contaminated sites, and resource-sector projects within MEMS' Water Resources Service Group. The role applies strong technical expertise and project execution skills to plan and conduct hydrogeological investigations, groundwater monitoring programs, aquifer testing, groundwater supply assessments, and contaminated site assessments across municipal, industrial, energy, and natural resource sectors. Working with moderate independence, the Intermediate Hydrogeologist leads technical components of projects, including field program execution, data interpretation, conceptual site model development, hydrogeological assessments, and technical reporting. The position contributes to successful project delivery through effective management of scope, schedule, quality, and safety requirements while supporting positive client outcomes. The successful candidate will have experience in one or more of groundwater supply, contaminated sites, oil and gas, mining, or environmental assessment projects. Experience with groundwater flow and contaminant transport modeling, including MODFLOW, is considered a strong asset. The role also supports business growth through client relationship development, proposal preparation, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and mentoring of junior staff, while upholding MEMS' core values of Service, Quality, Trust, Innovation, and Teamwork. Key Accountabilities Project Delivery and Technical Execution * Lead and execute technical components of hydrogeological projects, including groundwater supply assessments, aquifer testing programs, groundwater licensing, contaminated sites investigations, and resource-sector projects. * Plan, coordinate, and oversee field programs including drilling, monitoring well installation, groundwater monitoring, sampling, and hydraulic testing. * Support project managers in delivering projects within scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety requirements. * Coordinate field contractors and subcontractors to ensure efficient and safe project execution. Hydrogeological Assessment, Data Interpretation, and Modelling * Analyze hydrogeological, hydrogeochemical, and environmental datasets to characterize groundwater systems and support project objectives. * Develop and refine conceptual site models to evaluate groundwater flow, aquifer characteristics, contaminant migration, and water resource availability. * Conduct quantitative hydrogeological analyses and assessments to support regulatory, engineering, environmental, and operational decisions. * Apply groundwater flow and contaminant transport modelling tools, including MODFLOW or equivalent software, where appropriate. Technical Reporting and Regulatory Support * Prepare and review high-quality technical reports, work plans, and client deliverables. * Support regulatory applications, permitting activities, groundwater licensing, environmental assessments, and compliance reporting. * Present technical findings, conclusions, and recommendations clearly to clients, regulators, and multidisciplinary project teams. * Ensure all technical work meets applicable regulatory requirements, industry standards, and MEMS quality expectations. Client Service and Business Growth * Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients through responsive communication and successful project delivery. * Identify opportunities to support clients across groundwater supply, contaminated sites, oil and gas, mining, and water resource projects. * Contribute to proposal preparation, scopes of work, cost estimates, and technical approaches for new opportunities. * Support the continued growth of MEMS' hydrogeology and water resources practice, particularly within the mining sector. Team Collaboration, Mentorship, and Continuous Improvement * Collaborate effectively with hydrogeologists, engineers, geoscientists, environmental specialists, and other technical professionals. * Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff during field and office-based activities. * Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, innovation, and teamwork. * Maintain awareness of emerging industry practices, regulations, technologies, and modelling approaches to enhance technical excellence and client service. What You Bring * Bachelor’s degree in Geoscience (Hydrogeology, Geological Engineering) or related discipline. * Minimum 5–10 years of relevant experience in hydrogeology or contaminated sites consulting. * Eligibility for professional designation (e.g., P.Geo., P.Eng.) required. * Experience with field programs, pumping test programs, groundwater monitoring, and data interpretation. * Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (non-GDL). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Strong understanding of hydrogeological principles, groundwater flow systems, and contaminant transport * Ability to solve aquifer tests using analytical methods * Knowledge of Alberta Water Act and other associated provincial guidelines and regulations for licensing of groundwater supplies * Familiarity with any other applicable provincial regulations and environmental standards * Knowledge of the geology and depositional environments of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. * Familiarity of contaminated site assessment practices in Canada * Strong organizational skills and attention to detail * Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and standard technical reporting tools * Effective communication and interpersonal skills Working Conditions: * This role is primarily office based. However, some field work or travel to client sites may be required on a project-specific basis with each trip lasting anywhere from 1 to 10 days. This individual may conduct work at industrial or commercial facilities, brownfield sites and/or greenfield sites in varying locations (remote to urban). In some cases, the field work may include carrying sampling equipment. * Office environment that requires sitting for extended periods of time. * Prolonged exposure to computer keyboards and computer screens. * Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals. * Sometimes requires long hours of work. Occasional interruptions outside work hours and travel to other locations are required. * Ability to work varying shifts. * Required to walk, stand, climb, bend forward, kneel down, crawl, reach and grasp, push and pull objects, lift and/or move up to 30 kg, sometimes over the shoulders, repetitive bending and lifting of items, along with repetitive arm movements.
